The course Sustainable Environment focuses on the core principles of sustainable design and their practical application within interior environments. Students are introduced to key concepts such as energy efficiency, carbon reduction, material circularity, indoor environmental quality, and life-cycle thinking. A central theme of the course is climate adaptation and resilience—how interior spaces can remain functional, safe, and comfortable under conditions of extreme heat, flooding, energy instability, and other climate-related challenges. Through analysis of domestic and international case studies, including net-zero buildings, low-carbon interior renovations, adaptive reuse of existing structures, and natural-material-based design, students develop a clear understanding of how sustainable strategies are implemented in real-world practice. The course emphasizes that sustainability is not merely technical compliance but a holistic design approach that integrates environmental, social, and long-term performance considerations. By the end of the course, students will be able to translate sustainability principles into actionable design strategies, evaluate environmental impacts, and propose feasible solutions for resilient, healthy, and low-carbon interior spaces.
