無論是社會或自然科學，科學研究工作之目的，在於發現真理，以有助於擴增或延伸人類解釋、瞭解、及預測之知識，為達此一目的，則需依賴一嚴謹的研究架構與程序，始能確保研究成果具有一定的信度與效度。本課程基於此一目的，在課程的安排上，從研究問題之界定、研究假設之建立、資料蒐集工具之設計、資料蒐集方法、至研究報告之撰寫等，希望在一學期中，能建立學者撰寫碩士論文之基礎能力。

Whether in the social or natural sciences, the purpose of scientific research is to discover truth, thereby contributing to the expansion or extension of human knowledge in explanation, understanding, and prediction. To achieve this objective, a rigorous research framework and procedure are required to ensure that the research outcomes possess a certain level of reliability and validity. Based on this goal, the curriculum is structured to cover everything from defining research problems and establishing hypotheses to designing data collection tools, gathering data, and writing research reports. Through this semester-long course, it is hoped that students will develop the foundational capabilities required to write a master's thesis.
